T. Lucas Earle’s short story, Monkey Talk, is loosely based on the Chinese myth, the Monkey King, a timeless story about who belongs, and who doesn’t. In a future in which Chimps can give lectures on cybernetics, Mr. Towry, is a Chimp with an attitude. Unfortunately, the rules are still “No shirt, no shoes, no service.”

T. Lucas, has a real star here!!! This is definitely not the writing of someone attempting to create-- a futuristic fable. Mr. Towry, is not your usual chimp-- he is chimp extraordinaire!!! His language is articulated clearly and gives evidence to his environmental culture or habitat. Mr. Towry is highly intelligent, charming, witty and sarcastic--arriving with a "slam dunk" at just the perfect opportune!! This short story is wonderful in every way-- it will make you laugh (hard) and tear up in the same! The restaurant scene-- made me laugh out loud!!! I was truly surprised and appreciated how T. Lucas cleverly wrapped bathroom and hotel room escapades-- that later explained Mr. Towry's behavior and need for pills. The jail scene-- was compassion provoking and as Mr. Towry expressed somewhat of an refuge-- for him. This is a short story--that leaves A LASTING IMPRESSION!!!!! Truly enjoyed!!!Product details

Monkey Talk edition by T Lucas Earle Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
T. Lucas Earle does not disappoint. A dark twist on a classic fable with beautiful details that deserve short stories of their own. Entertaining, thought provoking, sweetly short - its well worth the read.
T. Lucas Earle seized my attention from the very first paragraph. With a glimpse into the mind of the genius chimpanzee Mr. Towry, Earle depicts the struggle between animalistic instincts and the expectations of the human world. There's more to this story than a talking monkey--it's intelligent, witty, and thought provoking, a combination that yields an entertaining and compelling read.
There were few books describing development apes into sentient beings. In this short story ape could be replaced by midget or pregnant boy and the story will be the same.
If story is about sentient ape's problems in human society, than it lacks something vital. I am not able to specify what, but it left me unsatisfied.
This is a thought-provoking story told with skill and humour. Under the guise of a science-fiction story, the author raises issues about race, inclusion/exclusion and culture. He captures both British and American speech patterns deftly and demonstrates a firm grasp of pace. There is a poignancy to the tale, reminiscent of Flowers for Algernon - although, of course, the allusions to the Chinese story of Monkey add a lightness that contributes to the astringency of many of its observations.
I'm not a fan of fiction and short stories. However, I couldn't stop reading this brilliantly conceived and written piece! "Monkey Talk" is more than characters and events. It's an exploration of the human condition through the perceptions of a member of a different species. Here, Earle transports the reader into the mind of a genetically modified ape whose thoughts and interactions with humans reveal bias, inner conflict, and desire. The psychological distance between our two species is not so great after all. Earle's witty and masterful writing style moves the story along at a good pace, which kept me interested. More than that, it's got me thinking. That's the sign of effective writing!
T. Lucas Earle has written a short story that I wish he would turn into a novel. The main character, Mr. Towry, is an English-speaking chimpanzee. He has the intelligence of a human being, but occasionally he finds himself acting more like an animal, especially if he doesn't receive his meds on time. His heightened sense of smell leads to trouble. I found this story a delightful entertainment without the squeamishness I experienced when I read THE EVOLUTION OF BRUNO LITTLEMORE by Benjamin Hale.
"We humans fear the beast within the wolf because we do not understand the beast within ourselves." ― Gerald Hausman
Mr. Towry, the brilliant protagonist of this Sci Fi short, who also happens to be a chimp, has a dilemma. He is troubled by an antagonist whose repeated stopovers into his unusual life are an unstoppable force of nature. How he chooses to deal with this is a lesson Homo sapiens should take note of, and when finding oneself in a similar situation apply the old adage "singe qui voit, singe qui fait", rather than fight the inevitable tooth and nail to the bitter end.
GREAT Short Story.
I believe this is too short to sell as a stand alone story and would be better sold only in a volume of shorts. While greatly entertaining, ninety-nine cents seems a bit to ask for so few words. As a result, I removed one point for the brevity of this story sold as is.
I would sincerely like to see this author entertain the idea of publishing an entire volume of shorts.
